Firewall settings are a set of rules that control how data enters and leaves a network or computer system. They create a barrier between secure and non–secure networks, such as the Internet, to protect internal networks from attack. Firewall settings typically include rules for allowing or blocking specific types of traffic, controlling access levels, and restricting which programs can communicate with each other.
