A CPU socket, also known as a CPU slot, is a physical connection point on the motherboard that houses a microprocessor. The type of CPU socket is typically determined by the manufacturer of the processor. Common sockets types include LGA (Land Grid Array), PGA (Pin Grid Array), and BGA (Ball Grid Array). Other sockets are used for specific manufacturers and processors, such as Intel‘s Socket 775 or AMD‘s Socket AM2.
