A stack switch is a network switch that operates as a single unit, allowing a group of switches to be managed together as a single entity. Each switch within the stack is connected via an interconnect cable, so that the switches can share power, cooling, and management functions. Stack switches are often used in networks that need to scale quickly and support high-bandwidth applications, such as virtualization and VoIP.
