When in sleep mode, a laptop typically has the ability to maintain its RAM memory and low-level system functions, such as network connections and peripheral devices. It may also be able to allow for quick access to data and programs stored on the hard drive. While in sleep mode, the laptop may also be able to adjust its power consumption levels, thus extending the battery life.
In sleep mode, a laptop usually has the capability to enter a low power state where the display is turned off and all peripherals are suspended. This helps conserve battery power and keep the laptop in a low–power state for later use.
