Routing protocols are used to find the best path for data to travel across a network. It enables routers to communicate with each other to determine the most efficient way for data to move between its source and destination. Routing protocols use algorithms to build routing tables that specify which router interface should be used to reach a given destination. They also allow routing devices to exchange information with their peers, such as link–state updates, and to eliminate redundant paths.
