A router typically has three ports:
1. An Ethernet port (also sometimes referred to as a WAN port) is used to connect the router to a modem or another internet source.
2. A LAN port (or Local Area Network port) is used to connect devices such as computers, laptops, and other internet–enabled devices to the router.
3. A USB port (Universal Serial Bus port) is used to connect external devices like hard drives or printers to your network.
