A wireless remote works by sending a radio frequency (RF) signal from the remote to the device it is controlling. The RF signal is picked up by a receiver connected to the device. The receiver then translates the signal into an action, such as turning on the device, changing the settings, or controlling the speed or intensity. The range of the remote depends on the type of remote and the power of the signal, but usually ranges from a few feet to up to a couple hundred feet.
