1. Make sure that your Ethernet cable is securely connected to your computer and to your modem or router.
2. Make sure that the drivers for your Ethernet adapter are up to date. You can update drivers by visiting your computer manufacturer’s website or by using a third-party driver update tool.
3. Check your IP configuration settings. In Windows 8.1, you can do this by going to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings. Right-click on your Ethernet adapter and select Properties. Go to the Networking tab and make sure that the correct IP configuration is selected.
4. Try resetting the TCP/IP protocol. You can do this by typing “netsh int ip reset” in the Command Prompt window without the quotes and pressing Enter.
5. Reset your modem or router. Unplug the power cord from the modem or router, wait for few seconds and plug it back in.
6. Uninstall and reinstall your Ethernet adapter driver. Go to Device Manager, find your Ethernet adapter, right-click on it and select Uninstall. Reboot your computer and Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.
