A modem connects your home network to your internet service provider (ISP) and allows devices on the network to access the internet.
A router is a device that forwards data packets between computers connected to networks. It also acts as a gateway connecting devices on the same local area network (LAN). The router also provides security from outside sources by firewall protection, and it can be used to create multiple networks by segmenting parts of the network.
