A computer virus is a type of malicious software designed to infect and spread from one computer (or other device) to another by replicating itself. Computer viruses can corrupt data, delete files, display unwanted messages, and cause other damage. Some viruses are even designed to access personal information such as passwords or credit card numbers. Viruses can also be used to gain access to a computer system, which could be used to damage or disable the system.
