802.1x authentication is a protocol that provides authenticated network access to local area networks (LANs) and other network types. It is commonly used in wireless networks, virtual private networks (VPNs), and other types of networks, and is designed to provide secure and efficient access control for both users and computers on a network. 802.1x can also be used for allowing devices to authenticate before allowing them to connect to the network. On a wireless network, 802.1x authentication will use the Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) and requires clients to provide credentials that match the ones stored on the server.
