A wireless access point (WAP) is a networking device that acts as a bridge between a wired network, such as Ethernet, and devices that use Wi–Fi, such as laptops, smart phones and tablets. It allows these devices to connect to the network without having to use cables. A WAP typically consists of a router, a wired Ethernet connection, and one or more antennas that broadcast the wireless signal.
