Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) is a proprietary network protocol developed by Cisco Systems that enables devices to share information about their capabilities and other network-connected devices on the local network. CDP operates at the Data Link Layer of the OSI model and is used mainly by network administrators to gather information about local networks. It can also be used to control and configure devices on the network.
