Document scanners are electronic devices that capture physical documents into digital images, which can then be stored on a computer or transferred to another medium. Document scanners usually work by scanning the document with a CCD (charge–coupled device) or CIS (contact image sensor), which converts the document into a digital format. Document scanners can also be used to scan photographs and artwork, depending on the resolution and color depth of the scanner.
