A Magic Packet is a packet of data sent to a computer in order to wake it up from a sleep state. It is used mainly for remote wake-up, as defined by the Wake-on-LAN (WoL) standard. The Magic Packet is a broadcast frame composed of 6 bytes of FF (255 in decimal) followed by 16 repetitions of the target computer’s 48-bit MAC address. The packet is sent to the broadcast address of the local network, so that all computers in the local network can receive it. The target computer reads the packet and wakes up.
