Malware detection is the process of identifying malicious software (malware) on a computer or network and taking steps to remove it. Malware can take many forms, including computer viruses, worms, ransomware, adware, and spyware, and can be used to gain unauthorized access to a computer system, steal personal information, or even cause damage to a system or network. Malware detection can be conducted manually or through the use of automated tools, such as antivirus software and network intrusion detection systems.
