A server farm is a collection of computer servers maintained by an organization to supply server functionality far beyond the capability of a single machine. Server farms often consist of thousands of computers which require a considerable amount of power to run and generate a large amount of heat. Server farms are often housed in specially designed facilities with climate–control systems, redundant power supplies, and multiple high–bandwidth connections to the Internet. Server farms are used to host websites, databases, software applications, email services, and a wide range of other Internet–based services.
