An SSL handshake is the process that occurs when two parties initiate a secure session over the internet. It is the first step to establishing an encrypted connection. During the handshake, the client and server exchange information and verify each other’s identity and cryptographic capabilities. The handshake allows the parties to agree on security settings, such as the protocol version and encryption algorithms to use, and authenticates both sides. The SSL handshake ensures that data is transmitted securely between the two parties.
