STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) Port States are a set of four different port states that a switch port can be in. These states are blocking, listening, learning, and forwarding. These states are used to help prevent network loops and to optimize network traffic flow.
STP port states are the different stages of a network link in the spanning tree protocol (STP). These port states are blocking, listening, learning, forwarding and disabled. The purpose of STP is to detect looped paths and block them to prevent traffic from looping endlessly throughout the network. Each port it manages moves through these states from blocked to forwarding.
