Subnet address is a unique identifier for a network on a larger network, such as the Internet. It allows a network administrator to create multiple logical networks that exist within a single physical network. The use of subnets can increase network performance and security by isolating critical systems from other systems. Each subnet is identified by a unique IP address (usually in the form of a Classless Inter–Domain Routing (CIDR) block, such as 10.0.0.0/8).
