A switch statement in C++ is a type of selection control mechanism used to allow the value of a variable or expression to control the flow of program execution. It works by allowing the programmer to specify one or more possible values that a given expression could take. Each of these values is then associated with a block of code that is executed if that value is matched. In other words, the switch statement is an alternative to multiple nested if statements when evaluating multiple conditions.
