Switching is a process of connecting multiple devices to the same network, while routing is a process of transferring data from one network to another. Switching involves using switching hardware such as switches and hubs, while routing is done through routing protocols such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). In other words, switching enables devices to communicate within a local area network, while routing enables communication across multiple networks.
