The Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) is a key protocol for creating a scalable network. STP is used to prevent the buildup of broadcast traffic caused by the formation of loops in a network when redundant paths exist. It ensures that only one path is used for each communication session and that all other paths are blocked. This eliminates broadcast storms and excessive unnecessary traffic throughout the network and allows the network to grow and become more efficient.
