A Wide Area Network (WAN) is a computer network that covers a large geographical area, such as a country, continent, or even the entire world. A WAN typically uses transmission facilities provided by common carriers such as telephone companies, and is often established with leased lines. WANs are used to connect local area networks (LANs) together, so that users and computers in one location can communicate with users and computers in other locations.
