Wi-Fi history refers to the development and evolution of the wireless local area network (WLAN) technology known as Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi was first introduced in 1997 by the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), which later became the Wi-Fi Alliance. The first Wi-Fi certified products were introduced in 1999, and the technology has since been adopted by many consumer electronics, computers, and other wireless devices. Wi-Fi has become an increasingly popular choice for wireless networking, with more than 8 million Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide. The development of Wi-Fi has been an ongoing process, and many new standards and technologies are continuously being developed.
