The Data Link Layer is responsible for providing reliable transfer of data between two nodes connected by a physical network, such as an Ethernet or Wi-Fi network. It is responsible for the formatting of data so that it can be transmitted, as well as for providing a reliable connection between the two nodes. It is also responsible for error detection and correction, flow control, and media access control.
