Oauth is an open standard for authorization while SAML is an internet security standard used for authentication and authorization. Oauth is used when you want to grant a third-party application or website access to your information without giving them your password. SAML is used when you want to authenticate users and authorize them to access resources in a secure manner. Oauth is best suited when you need to provide access to a limited set of resources while SAML is better suited when you need to provide access to a larger set of resources.
