Wifi 5 (also known as 802.11ac) is a wireless network standard that was developed in 2014 by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). It is the fifth generation of Wi-Fi technology, succeeding 802.11n, and was designed to increase the speed and range of wireless networks. Wifi 5 offers speeds up to 1.3 Gbps (gigabits per second) and a range of up to 400 meters (about 1,300 feet).
