An IP address is a unique numerical label assigned to each device that connects to a network. Devices on a network are identified by their IP address, which acts like an online identity tag. This tag allows devices to communicate with one another and transfer data across the network. When a device sends information over a network, it includes its own IP address as a source address and the IP address of the destination device as a destination address. Routers and other gateways use these addresses to route the information to its destination.
