The type field in the Ethernet header is used to indicate the type of protocol used in the data portion of the frame. The type field is a two-byte value that specifies the type of protocol contained in the data field. The most common types are IP (Internet Protocol), ARP (Address Resolution Protocol), and RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol).
