1. Connect the switch to the computer using a console connection.
2. Log into the switch by typing “enable“ and entering your password when prompted.
3. Type “configure terminal“ to enter global configuration mode.
4. Type “hostname <hostname>” to give the switch a custom name.
5. Configure basic parameters such as the IP address and default gateway of the switch.
6. Create new VLANs or modify existing ones.
7. Configure trunking for each port for efficient communication among all VLANs.
8. Configure security settings such as passwords, authentication protocols and access control lists (ACLs).
9. If necessary, configure Quality of Service (QoS) for controlling bandwidth and prioritizing traffic.
10. Test the configuration by using basic connectivity tests such as ping and traceroute.
11. Save the current configuration by typing “write memory“ or “copy running–config startup–config“.
