1. Check if your router supports DD–WRT or a similar open source firmware. This is essential for turning your router into a wi–fi extender.
2. Flash the latest version of DD–WRT onto your router. To do this, you need to access the router’s web interface, enter its IP address, and then follow the steps for uploading the firmware.
3. Connect your router to the existing Wi–Fi network you want to extend. To do this, go to Setup > Basic Setup, select Wireless Repeater in the Wireless Mode dropdown menu and enter the name of the existing Wi–Fi network in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) field.
4. Select a channel for your extended network. Go to Wireless > Wireless Security and select a channel that isn‘t being used by your existing network.
5. Assign a new SSID and password to your extended network. Go to Wireless > Basic Settings and enter a unique SSID and secure password.
6. Change the LAN IP address of your extended network. Go to Setup > Basic Setup and enter a new IP address in the Local IP Address field.
7. Save your settings and reboot the router. You should now have a working Wi–Fi extender.
