In order to erase the running configuration on a Cisco switch, you will need to enter the command “erase startup-config”. This will erase the current running configuration, but it will not affect the IOS software or the switch’s system image. If you want to reset the switch to its factory default settings, you will need to issue the command “write erase”. This will erase both the running configuration and the IOS software.
