1. Find the right cable modem for your internet service provider. Check with your ISP to make sure the modem you choose is compatible with their service.
2. Connect the coaxial cable to the modem. This is the cable that runs from the wall to the modem.
3. Connect the modem to the power outlet. Plug the power cord that came with the modem into the wall and the modem.
4. Connect the modem to your computer. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the modem to your computer.
5. Activate the modem. Contact your ISP to activate the modem. They will provide you with a user name and password for the modem.
6. Configure the modem. Once the modem is activated, you may need to configure it with the information from your ISP. Refer to the instructions provided by the ISP.
