1. Connect one end of the Cisco console cable to the serial port of the computer and the other end to the router.
2. Configure the computer’s COM port settings by opening the Device Manager.
3. Select the COM port to which the Cisco console cable is connected and right click it to open the Properties window.
4. Under the Port Settings tab, set the Bits per second to 9600, Data bits to 8, Parity to None, Stop bits to 1 and Flow control to None.
5. Open the HyperTerminal application, create a new connection and set the COM port to the one used with the Cisco console cable.
6. Set the port settings to match the ones from the Device Manager, and click OK.
7. Type “en” and press Enter to enter privileged EXEC mode.
8. Type “conf t” to enter global configuration mode and type the commands to configure the router.
9. Type “end” to exit global configuration mode and type “wr” to save the configuration.
