1. Connect the laptop to an existing network using a network cable connected to a router or modem.
2. Open the Network and Sharing Center (in Windows) or System Preferences (in Mac OS X).
3. Select “Set Up a New Connection or Network”.
4. Select “Set Up a Wireless Ad Hoc (Computer–to–Computer) Network”.
5. Enter in a unique Network Name, select a security encryption type, and enter in the Network Security Key if necessary.
6. Select “Create”.
7. Your laptop will now be functioning as an access point.
