    2. Open the command line on your machine and type in telnet followed by the IP address or hostname of the target server as well as the port you want to check. For example: `telnet [host] [port]`

    3. If the connection is successful, you should be presented with a blank screen with a cursor. Otherwise, you will receive an error message.

    4. To close the connection, type in ‘quit’ or ‘exit’ and press enter.
