A BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is a type of firmware used to perform hardware initialization during the booting process (power–on startup), and to provide runtime services for operating systems and programs. It provides a set of instructions that enable the computer to perform basic functions such as booting and timekeeping. The BIOS is typically stored on a ROM chip in the computer, which is permanently attached to the motherboard.
