A hypervisor is a virtualization technology that allows multiple virtual machines (VMs) to run on a single physical machine. It acts as a layer between the physical hardware and the operating systems and software running on the VMs. It provides a secure environment for the VMs, as well as a way to manage and monitor their activity. The most common hypervisors are Xen, VMware, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
