A trunk is a type of networking connection that allows multiple virtual local area networks (VLANs) to be carried over a single physical connection. Trunks are usually used to connect switches or routers in the same network, or to connect switches and routers to a larger network such as an enterprise network or the Internet. Trunks are typically used to conserve bandwidth and reduce the number of physical connections that need to be maintained.
