A BPDU (Bridge Protocol Data Unit) is a packet sent by devices participating in a Spanning Tree Protocol network. These packets are used to detect loops in the network and to ensure that loop-free paths are created between switches. A BPDU packet contains basic information about the switch’s current state, including its Bridge ID, priority, and the root bridge.
