Bridging routers, also known as Layer 2 bridging, is a process of combining two or more network segments so that data packets can be routed and sent between computers that are part of the bridged networks. Bridging routers use a variety of protocols and technologies to transmit data, including Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs). Bridging routers can also be used to interconnect two separate physical networks, such as a public and private IP space.
