CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) subnet mask is a notation for expressing the underlying number of a network routing prefix in an IP address. It is used to identify the network and the host on a given network. CIDR subnet mask is typically written in the form of a slash followed by a number, such as /24. This number is the number of bits used for the network portion of the address.
