A DHCP packet format consists of four parts: the server identification, the client identification, the configuration parameters, and the message type.
Server Identification – This section identifies the DHCP server sending the response to the request. Client
Identification – This section identifies the requesting host from which the request originated.
Configuration Parameters – This section contains the various settings that are sent to the requesting host such as IP address, DNS server address, subnet mask, and gateway address.
Message Type – This section identifies the type of message being sent, such as a request for an IP address or a reply containing the requested information.
