Ethernet cables come in a variety of types, including Category 5 (Cat5), Category 5e (Cat5e), Category 6 (Cat6), Cat6A, Cat7 and Cat8. Cat5 is the oldest type of Ethernet cable and has a maximum speed of 100 Mbps. Cat5e is an enhanced version of Cat5 and has a maximum speed of 1 Gbps. Cat6 cables are designed to deliver up to 10 Gbps and Cat6A cables can deliver up to 10 Gbps over a distance of up to 100 meters. Cat7 and Cat8 cables are the latest types of Ethernet cables, and they can deliver speeds of up to 10 Gbps over a distance of up to 100 meters.
