A Linux group file is a file that contains a list of group names and associated group IDs (GIDs). This file, typically located at /etc/group, stores information about the various groups that exist on the system, such as user groups, system groups, and administrative groups. Each line in this file contains information about a single group, including the group name, group ID, group password, and a list of users who are members of that group. This file is used by the system to determine the group privileges for each user on the system.
