Ransomware is a form of malware that aims to encrypt the files on the victim’s computer, making them inaccessible and often times leaving the user unable to access the system. To regain access, the user must pay a ransom typically in the form of Bitcoins or other online currency. In some cases, the attacker may demand payment for the decryption key required to recover the files. These attacks are typically spread via email and malicious websites, but can also be distributed through exploit kits.
