Metric in Cisco routing is the numerical value used by a routing protocol to determine the best path to a destination. It is a measure of the cost associated with a particular route, and is used by routing protocols such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) and Routing Information Protocol (RIP). In general, the lower the metric, the better the route.
