Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) Link State Advertisements (LSAs) are used to exchange routing information between routers in a network. OSPF LSAs are divided into seven types, each responsible for different functions: 1. Type 1: Router LSA – Originated by each router in an area, and contain information about the routes directly connected to each router. 2. Type
2: Network LSA – Originated by the Designated Router in an area to advertise networks within it.
3. Type 3: Summary LSA – Originated by Area Border Routers to advertise their connected networks to other areas.
4. Type 4: Summary ASBR LSA – Originated by Area Border Routers to advertise external network destinations to other areas.
5. Type 5: Autonomous System External LSA – Originated by Autonomous System Boundary Routers to advertise external routes to other Autonomous Systems.
6. Type 6: Multicast OSPF LSA – Originated by DRs to advertise the multicast capabilities of the network.
7. Type 7: Not–So–Stubby Area (NSSA) External LSA – Originated by NSSA Area Border Routers to advertise external routes to other NSSA Areas.
