RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol) is a proprietary protocol developed by Adobe Systems for streaming audio, video, and data over the Internet between a Flash player and a server. RTMP is mostly used by websites that offer streaming media and voice communication products. It is also used by applications such as QuickTime, iTunes, and Windows Media Player. The protocol is based on Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and allows low–latency communication between the server and the client.
